Fees, rebates & referrals

Practical information about the cost of appointments, available rebates and whether you need a referral.

Fees vary depending on the type of service and how your appointments are funded.
Private appointments, Medicare-referred appointments, DVA, NDIS, Open Arms, workplace and insurance-funded services may each have different fee arrangements.
Where fees are set by an external organisation or funding body, their applicable fee schedule will apply. We will confirm the fee and any expected out-of-pocket cost with you before your first appointment.

Yes. If you have a valid GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (GPMHTP), you may be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate for psychology appointments with Nik. Nik is a registered Medicare provider.
Medicare currently provides rebates for up to 10 individual mental health treatment services per calendar year for eligible patients.
Your GP can assess whether a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral are appropriate for you.

Eligible out-of-pocket costs for Medicare-rebatable psychology services may count towards your Medicare Safety Net.

Once you reach the relevant threshold, you may receive a higher Medicare benefit for eligible out-of-hospital services for the remainder of the calendar year.

No. You do not need a referral to see Nik as a private client.
A referral is required if you want to claim a Medicare rebate under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, or where appointments are being funded by an organisation that requires one.
If you are unsure whether you need a referral, contact Mind Zone before booking and we can clarify what applies to you.

A GP referral is currently required, with DVA’s existing treatment-cycle arrangements applying.
From 1 July 2027, DVA is introducing new allied health arrangements. The current 12-session treatment cycle will be removed, meaning an initial GP referral will still be required, but repeat referrals after every 12 sessions will no longer be necessary. DVA is also increasing allied health provider fees and introducing new arrangements for reviewing higher levels of allied health care.

Yes. Nik works with QPS, QAS and other first responders, and is also an Open Arms provider.

We ask for at least 2 working days’ notice if you need to cancel or change your appointment.
Cancellations with less than 2 working days’ notice may incur a $50 cancellation fee. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments without notice, may be charged the full session fee.
Cancellation fees and conditions may vary depending on your referrer or funding arrangement and are subject to change without notice.
